I discovered the wonders of computer art in 2006. I found out that Google has released a 3D modeling program called Google SketchUp, including a free version, and decided to give it a try. I was instantly hooked. Since early age, I used to draw, mainly with pencil and crayons but later neglected my fairly developed talent for art in favor of other hobbies. Later on, I used to paint a lot with water colors, making some rather nice paintings. And now, in my third incarnation as an artist, I'm using computer software to turn images in my head into reality.
This section is all about 3D art using computer software. Most if not all models are created using Google SketchUp, with rendering and post-processing done in Kerkythea, plus some polish and montage in GIMP. With time, I will include additional work using programs like POV-Ray, Blender, anim8or, and other software.
Each work is presented as an individual gallery. Most of the projects have a rather distinctive military character, so they might not appeal to anyone. For some reason, I found out that I mostly like to draw people with pencil, landscape with watercolors, and precise, technical objects with computer software. I don't know why; maybe because computers allow for a certain sterile precision that you cannot have using your own hands. But do not be dissuaded. Even castles and tanks can be pleasing to look at, especially after taking 30-40 hours of hard labor and love to conceive.
You will also find several non-art pages explaining how to use 3D art software, tips and tricks on drawing and rendering, extensions, plugins and integration software for some of the popular applications, Linux hacks for Windows programs, reviews, introduction and teaser articles, and more. This is not just one man's art! This is a treasure box.
A word of caution for 56K dial-up users: For enhanced experience, I thought it would be best if I did not use small-size thumbnails to link to enlarged images, but rather display them in their full glory within the gallery pages. This might cause a bit of a delay in loading.
You can click these fine little previews to jump into each gallery ... Some of the galleries have lots of extras, like more realistic rendering and fanciful GIMP effects, so make sure to check them all! The more artistically inclined among you will surely appreciate the extra touch of color and realism.
I hope you'll enjoy them!

This section is dedicated to interior design 3D modeling. The content in this section is created and maintained entirely by my wife. She designs the models and writes the articles. Hopefully, this section will expose this website to yet another segment of readers, mainly the less geeky ones - and women, too, as they are greatly under-represented at Dedoimedo.
Introduction
For many years I had the love and feel for architecture and design. I fished around the Internet for some time, looking for an interior design software that would allow me to convert my two dimensional doodles into beautiful, textured, 3D models. Eventually, The software I chose was Chief Architect Better Homes and Gardens Interior Designer. It boasts all the necessary design features while being reasonably priced.
Interior Designer features various built-in styles, allows the use of both metric and US units and has a material calculator that can price the value of property after the design is finished. However, there are some limitations. Mainly, the software supports conventional home design, so you can't go wild architecturally or design higher than three-story buildings. Still, a creative designer would know how to capitalize on the advantages present, as you will see in the galleries below.
